Details: Two women choose to keep their excess income under their mattress.  By keeping the money there and waiting to use it at a later date, possibly to buy drinks at a bar, they are illustrating money as a store of value.  Money is used as a store  of value as a means for holding wealth.  In other words, people may choose to hold their wealth as cash knowing that the money will not deteriorate or lose much value over time.  Another function of money is as a medium of exchange, basically meaning that people use money to buy goods and services.
