EconGoneCountry

Supply and demand with a twang

My name is Dr. Mark Melichar and I am an economics professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University.  Economics is a fascinating field of study and I hope this website sparks an interest in students to learn more.  I have always enjoyed country music and in the last few years have been listening for the economic principles that permeate the songs.  Economics is the study of people and the choices we make, and country music is much the same.  My list of songs with economic concepts is ever growing, so if you know of an older song or hear a newly released song that screams 'Economics' please let me know.

I truly enjoy teaching and try to use EconGoneCountry.com in all of my classes including Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and even Money & Banking!  My teaching style is to make economics relatable and therefore more interesting to college students, which I achieve through current events, tv and movie clips, and of course music.  My teaching style has been influenced by Dr. Daniel Kuester at Kansas State University and Dr. Dirk Mateer at the University of Texas.  Dr. Kuester has a website detailing where you can find economics in The Office, and Dr. Mateer has a website containing film, tv, and music examples containing economics.  They are both highly recommended and I encourage you to visit them.

If you have any questions about economic education or my teaching style, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Thank you and I hope you enjoy EconGoneCountry!!!
